Problem
When you run the Verify Data utility, you will receive the following message:
QuickBooks Error Code 213
Message: Your data contains duplicate list elements. Please view Qbwin.log located in your program directory for a list of the duplicate elements.
Expected Outcome
You will no longer receive this message when running the Verify Data utility.
Assumptions
You are using an up-to-date licensed copy of QuickBooks.
Step by step instructions to resolve the problem:
1 Re-sort all lists.
For instructions on re-sorting lists, see Re-sort QuickBooks lists.
2 Close and reopen QuickBooks.
3 Run the Verify Data/Rebuild Data processes to correct any data damage.
If you continue to receive the error, your data contains duplicate list elements. Search the QBWIN.log file in your program directory for a list of duplicate elements.
To search the QBWIN.log file:
With your QuickBooks company file open, press F2 (or Ctrl+1) to display the Product Information window.
Press Ctrl+2 to open the Tech Help window.
In the Tech Help window, click the Open File tab.
Double-click the qbwin.log file. To move to the bottom of the document, press Ctrl+End.
To display the Find window and find duplicate in the document, press Ctrl+F.
Locate the name, account, or customer message that is referenced in the error message.Open the appropriate center (Vendor, Employee, or Customer). Choose View > All (Customers, Vendors, or Employees). For Other Names, Accounts, or Customer Messages, choose the Lists menu.
Double-click the name to open an Edit window. If the duplicate name is an account, select the account. Choose Account > Edit Account.
Change the name to make it unique (for example, use capitalization, spacing, or punctuation). To save the change, click OK.
Edit any other duplicate list items that are found in the qbwin.log file.
When all the items have been edited, choose File > Utilities > Verify Data.
You should not receive the error message, again.
